Here the advices of an unobjective person, born and living in Burgundy. Aline Elorn.
The country of good
wines, of famous mustard (Dijon), cows....and snails, is
in the middle of France and economical Europe. No
mountains, no sea, but a wonderful country with a lot of
castles. A rich historical past with the Dukes of
Burgundy, who teased during many years kings of France.
Few centuries ago, when french people were called
"Gaulois", they already loved to tease Romans : the
museum of Bribracte keeps a rich collection of these
delicious moments. Few millenary ago, when French people
walked like monkeys, they loved to tease horses by
running behind them on the famous Solutré
rock. Far from great towns as
Paris or Lyon, Burgundy
is at the same time very close to them : by the fast
train TGV London is 6H far, Paris is 1H30 far, and
Lyon 1H far. At Lamartine's castle, a
special curiosity and a great interest to descover who
was the artist Marianne Birch

Burgundy being known also
for its gastronomical cooking, between two cellars, it's
our famous, or just ordinary, restaurants that will
welcome your happy stomach. The best way to descover
Burgundy is to walk. But since few years a new sport
appeared, that consists to practise boating
on our rivers. It's slow, nice and gives a deep view of
our villages. If not a cottage, there
are quiet stays at logis
de France. Choose
Burgundy (Bourgogne). But maybe you prefer to
exchange a house
Burgundy is firstly
the country of wines. The
most attractive (maybe also the most dangerous) is the
"road of wines" where it's possible to drive from cellars
to cellars descovering (freely) our good wines and
eventually buy
them.
All kind of sports
can be practised in Burgundy. In
the air, on rivers, or on the ground.
There are many
possibilities to find a place to stay on holidays in
Burgundy. But to meet people as to know the "deep
Burgundy", the best way is to lease "holiday
cottages"
or stay at a "bed
and breakfast". A sevear control is done officially
that gives some guarantees. There are different levels of
comfort but usually "holiday cottages" are in very quiet
places.
- After an eventual stay at Paris you come directly to Burgundy by the fast train TGV. A choice of hotels in Paris, how much costs a stay, in which area. You can stop at Dijon (greatest town of Burgundy), Macon (wines are not far) or Le Creusot-Montceau railway station (to see deep Burgundy). All the informations concerning trains, in English.
